What is a battery health management system (BMS)?

Their performances depend heavily on internal and external conditions (aging, temperature, etc.). In order to keep track of these performances and battery states, an LIB pack is always equipped with a Battery Health Management system, part of the Battery Management System (BMS). The BMS is the main battery control system.

Why is cell balancing important in BMS battery management system?

During charging weak cells may get over stressed and become even weaker until they eventually fail which causes the whole pack to fail prematurely. So to avoid this BMS battery management system has to provide cell balancing. Majorly there are two cell balancing techniques first is the active balancing second is the passive balancing.

What is a battery management system?

The battery management system is an electronic system that controls and protects a rechargeable battery to guarantee its best performance, longevity, and safety. The BMS tracks the battery’s condition, generates secondary data, and generates critical information reports.

What is a BMS battery & how does it work?

These protections include over-current (OC), over-voltage (OV), under-voltage (UV), over-temperature (OT), and under-temperature (UT) conditions. The BMS guarantees the battery’s longevity and safety by prohibiting it from running outside of its safe operating area (SOA).
