What is the Wellington Battery energy storage system?

The Wellington Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will store excess renewable energy ready for use by homes and businesses during peak times. BESS projects play an important role in the future electricity system. Construction of the project will be undertaken by AMPYR’s preferred construction contractors Fluence and RJE Global.

What is the Wellington Battery energy storage system (BESS)?

The Wellington Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is planned to be developed in the central west New South Wales (NSW), Australia. The project will comprise a grid-scale BESS with a total discharge capacity of around 400MW. AMPYR Australia, a renewable energy assets developer in the country, owns 100% of the BESS project.

Will Wellington Bess be the largest battery storage project in NSW?

Once operational, it will have a capacity of 1,000-megawatt hours (MWh) of green power. This will make Wellington BESS one of the largest battery storage projects in NSW. Wellington is being constructed at 6773 and 6909 Goolma Road, Wuuluman NSW 2820.

Where is Wellington solar project located?

Land surrounding the project is relatively flat, apart from a hill approximately 600 m east of the project, which rises about 100 m above the majority of the site. The project is directly south of the Wellington Solar Farm and adjacent and east of the Wellington Substation (see Figure 1.2).
